LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Councilman Clinton L. Johnson
Mobile City Council
P.O. BOX 1827 Mobile, AL 36633-1827

Ms. Bernice Hudson
Easton St.
Mobile, AL 36605

Dear Councilman Johnson,
I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of naming a road after Ms. Bernice Hudson.
Ms. Hudson has been a leader in the Oakdale Community and the City of Mobile for over 30 years.
During the years of 1983-1984 Ms. Hudson stood up against a Mobile County Detention Center from
being built right into the community. Through adversity Ms. Hudson stood strong and prevailed
victoriously at getting the plans for the detention center denied. The case went all the way to the
Alabama Supreme Court . Ms. Hudson has been awarded numerous awards through the years.

Ms. Hudson has demonstrated time and time again that she is true leader, and this is something that should not be ignored. Ms. Hudson is a history story for the Oakdale Community as well as for the
History of Mobile Alabama. Listed are a few of Ms. Hudson’s awards:

Community Service Award (1983)
Dr. MLK Non-Violent Pursuit of a Dream Award (1984)
Citizen of the Year (1984)
Social Action Award (1984)
(2) MOBEALE Award (1984 & 1991)
Governor’s Award (1991)
Special Recognition for Outstanding Service to the Community (2002)
Humanitarian Award (2002)

In spite of these formidable awards, Ms. Hudson is a humble and approachable person who loves to share her extensive knowledge with others. The location of the road is on the east side of the Mobile Police Academy located at 1251 Virginia Street.
