LETTER TO CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT REGGIE COPELAND
Thursday, February 25, 2009
Councilman Reggie Copeland
Mobile City Council
Dear Councilman Copeland,
This letter is in reference to the unwritten rule about individuals that have announced their candidacy to run for a City Council Seat can’t speak to the City Council. Councilman Copeland, it is my understanding that there has been several individuals in the past that has spoken to the City Council at the City Council Meeting and they had announced their candidacy before doing so. I thought that you stated that you guys have been doing this since 1985 not letting candidates speak to the Council. I am not a certified candidate at this point according to the rules. Please check your rules and you will see that I am not a Certified Candidate yet. Also why is this unwritten rule is not listed in the rules to communicate with the Council? If you guys have been doing this since 1985 why haven’t you placed this rule into your list of rules yet? Like I have stated to you before in an email if this is
Legal let’s get an amendment done to the ordinance and have the Council vote on it. Then future candidates will know this rule. I respectfully request a written response to this letter.
I look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for your time concerning this matter.
